Cartago: usos de suelo en la ciudad fenicia y púnica

Resumen

La representación de las sociedades fenicio-púnicas se ha construido sobre la base de, entre otros criterios, el urbanismo de sus ciudades de las que Cartago se tomó como arquetipo. Desde presupuestos orientalistas y clasicistas su trazado y organización ha sido interpretado como menos racional frente al de las ciudades grecorromanas. Sin embargo un análisis de las secuencias estratigráficas registradas en Cartago, a partir de la identificación de los usos del suelo y de su ubicación topográfica y cronológica, demuestra que en Cartago existió desde la época arcaica una precisa y consciente distribución geográfica de los usos del suelo, una gestión de los residuos urbanos y un control del crecimiento de la ciudad durante los siglos posteriores.
