Dynamics, practices and peasant communities in Ibi (Alacant, province) from Protohistory to the feudal period. An approach to the rural landscape from multiscalar archaeology

This article presents the dynamics of settlement, and the organisation of the rural landscape identified in archaeological fieldwork in Ibi (Alacant, Eastern Spain). The archaeological fieldwork was assisted by geospatial techniques such as GIS, LiDAR, GPS, and GPR that allowed analysing the obtained results along multiple scales. Through this data, we analyse the structure of settlement and land use over the long term, from the second millennium BC to the feudal conquest in the 13th century AD. We pay special attention to the intensive models of agricultural production linked to practices such as manuring, terracing and irrigation. We propose a socio-economic organisation of agricultural work managed by peasant households closely integrated into rural communities that share spaces and agricultural practices.
