Estudio de moluscos recogidos en la villa romana de La Pila (Altea, Alicante)
Abstract
We examined a number of molluses collected from the ground upon which the Roman town of La Pila once stood, in Altea (Alicante province), between the first and fourth century A.D. The molluscs are mostly Murex trunculus, Murex brandaris, and Thais haemastoma which, along with the breakages in sorne of them due to the extraction of the animal, leads us to believe that they may have been used for manufacturing purple dye. In any case, the gasteropoda and bivalvia would have made up part of the inhabilants' diet.
